This short story reads like a grim fairytale, with a very incompetent director of a nursing home, a vulnerable old mother, a stupid policeman and a wicked nephew. Unfortunately, it is reality. This is a very good short story about a woman ambushed by circumstances beyond her control when she makes a trip back to the Netherlands to spend time with her dying mother. I finished it wishing the story had been longer.
This short story reads like a grim fairytale, with a very incompetent director of a nursing home, a vulnerable old mother, a stupid policeman and a wicked nephew. Unfortunately, it is reality. This must have been a haunting experience. The best thing you can do in these circumstances is write about it! The result is a fascinating and very readable book.
